In our ‘Nest’ the Goldcrest Nursery has been designed to offer a home from home setting.  Staff have been carefully chosen for their expertise and passion for all things Early Years.  With a main room and separate quiet snug, it also benefits from an outside area of its own for the children to play in.  There are further opportunities to explore in the open space of the school grounds with great opportunities for physical development and our Forest School area.  This is all wrapped in the surrounding ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.’

It is vital to us that the relationships between children, parents and our staff are strong and most importantly that the provision offered, meets the children’s needs.

Goodrich Church of England Primary School has over one hundred and twenty children on roll and our governor run nursery- Goldcrests. To care and support for these wonderful children, there are around twenty staff members – in various guises!  We are all justly proud of our school – in fact, we love it here!

Goodrich Primary is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled School, situated in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), halfway between the historic towns of Ross on Wye and Monmouth.  Our community stretches over a wide area, from west of the A40 dual carriageway, to the beautiful River Wye. Some of our children come from even further away. Our school was founded in 1850 and we now reside in a modern, purpose-built building to which we moved in 2000.Goodrich is a small, ancient village with a local shop, village hall, two pubs, a famous castle, and, of course, the school.

High over it all stands the steeple of our church, St Giles’, which plays an important part in our weekly and seasonal lives. The distinctively christian ethos of the school mean that we work as a family to role-model, guide and share our christian values to help our children to explore, grow and develop in a safe environment.

What do we offer?

We have five classes; Wrens, Robins, Woodpeckers, Owls and Peregrines.

We also have our own purpose built nursery (Governor run) for our Goldcrest class. (2-4 year olds)

Out of school hours child care:

• We have a breakfast club that opens its doors at 7:45 in the morning, and offers freshly prepared breakfast from our school kitchen and a supervised playtime until the gates are opened at 8:45.
• From Monday to Friday, Smiles club provide childcare from 3:15 until 5:30 every day that the school is open.  Jackie plans the club to suit the children using it and they can have a delicious healthy snack too.

Wonderful school grounds where:

• the children are guided and supported in their freedom to play, explore and socialize in a beautiful landscape;
• we can play in our own real hedged maze!
• we care for our chickens;
• the children discover and develop aspects about their character through the Forest School wild corner.

Goodrich Primary School is a registered Forest School (http://www.forestschoolsuk.co.uk/) .

Our children attend the Forest School activities on a  rota, exploring their environment and the natural resources that it offers, developing a love and curiosity of the countryside, and learning about themselves, developing self-esteem and confidence.
